On February 15th, 1910 Irena Sendler was born in the town of Warsaw, Poland. Growing up, Irena was very lonely because she was an only child. However, she was very close to her charming father who was a socialist and doctor in a town just fifteen minutes out of Warsaw. Her father was a very loving and compassionate man, who was always looking out for others, and wanted to put other people's needs in front of his. Almost all of her father's patients were Jewish people. When Irena was just seven years old, her role model passed away from Typhus. Irena knew she had big shoes to fill, but her father's passion and drive to help everyone inspired Irena to follow in his foot steps. Irena began to show how she wanted to make a difference in 1930, when she was studying at Warsaw University. At this particular university, Jewish people were forced to sit separate from everyone else. Irena, having made a couple of Jewish friends at this university, knew this had to be stopped. Most people were astonished to see she had sat at the Jewish table. When she was asked to remove herself, she said "I am Jewish today" and was expelled. This was just a little step towards Irena's heroic life.
